Tumiralaat Ottawa Inuit Child Care Centre

On July 14, 2008, the Ottawa Inuit Children’s Centre (OICC) was pleased to announce that a full day child care centre had become available at 224 McArthur Avenue in Vanier thanks to funding from the Ministry of Children and Youth and the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs. The Tumiralaat Child Care Centre program offers spaces for 10 toddlers, between the ages 18 months and 30 months of age, and a preschool program that offers 16 spaces for children aged 2.5 to 6 years of age. Operating hours are from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

The Tumiralaat Centre recognizes the importance of age-appropriate early-learning as foundations for a child’s future well-being, learning, and behaviour. One of the program’s key objectives is to ensure that the children learn about their Inuit culture and heritage. Nutritious food is served, including traditional country food. The centre seeks to provide children the opportunities to develop curiosity, interests, learning styles, and problem-solving in a culturally enriched and meaningful environment.

The cost of the child care service is dependent on parent/guardians’ incomes. The staff at the OICC will assist parents in applying for subsidized spots through the City of Ottawa.

Please contact Allison at 613-744-3133, ext 232 or Bea at 613-744-3133, ext 213.
