Behaviour Management/Child Guidance

The staff, volunteers and parents will guide children's behavior in positive ways at all times.  The following strategies are considered appropriate:

  • A spirit of cooperation is fostered at all times through positive interactions.
  • Children are encouraged to resolve conflicts on their own unless they require the assistance of a teacher to help express feelings and solve problems.
  • Undesired behavior is redirected by the teachers.  For example, a child who is disruptive in a particular activity will be redirected by a teacher to another activity.
  • Parents and staff work together to provide positive guidance and support to all children.

The following acts are not permitted by staff, parents and volunteers:

  • Corporal punishment (i.e. hitting, punching, kicking and spanking).
  • Deliberate harsh or degrading acts that would humiliate a child.
  • Depriving of a child of basic needs including food, shelter, clothing or bedding.
  • Confining of a child in a locked space.

Parents who refuse to follow the Behavior Management/Child Guidance policy will not be able to volunteer in the program with the children.
