Evening Programs

Elder Storytelling

The purpose of the program is for Elders to be able to share their experiences and knowledge about Inuit traditions and customs. It is an opportunity for community to learn and ask questions. It provides a good dialogue for community to understand their heritage.

Funded by the Harold Crabtree Foundation.

Highlights of some Elders who have shared their stories with us are:

Marie Brazeau spoke on her life in Labrador.

Peter Irniq spoke about drumming. Who he learned drumming from. Stories about his family.

Sally Webster spoke about clothing–decorations, styling, preparation of the skins.

Susan Singnoorie spoke about women’s roles and relationships.

Willy Adams spoke about being a Senator and the communities he visited while being a Senator. He has since retired.

Ovilu Goo-Doyle spoke about life as an urban Inuk. She also spoke learning how to garden and dealing with bugs.
