Tumiralaat Child Care Centre
A licensed full day, year-round child care centre for Inuit children ages 18 months to 6 years.
Since its opening in 2008, Tumiralaat has focused on children’s early learning based on Inuit values regarding the development of self, family, community, resilience, learning, and respect for the environment.

Activities:
- A rich learning environment (physical, social, emotional and language skills)
- Inuit values
- Inuktitut language
- Cultural storytelling
- Inuit traditions
- Individual and group play
- 3 hours of outdoor play daily
- Learning about ourselves, families and others
- Fair play: sharing and turn-taking
- Painting, sewing, beading
- Cultural performances of singing and drumming
Highlights:
- Allowing parents to study and work fulltime
- Licensing inspection results were in 100% compliance with Ministry of Education
- Assistant Deputy Minister, Jim Grieve, visited the Centre and gave the green light to pursue an on-site kindergarten program
