Youth Moving Forward

The Moving Forward Program is for youth 13-24 years of age to work on their employment, education, life skills or volunteer hours. The program runs Tuesday to Friday 4 pm – 6 pm; program includes: homework help, 1-to-1’s, goal setting, employment readiness, life skills and guest speakers. Guest speakers pertain to the youth’s interest in the fields of post-secondary study and careers. Guests speakers from the fields of corrections and policing, security, culinary arts, northern relations, medicine and local colleges and universities are some examples.

This program helps to prepare Youth (ages 13 to 24)  for the following:

  • Employment Readiness
  • School Funding through scholarship/OSAP/bursary applications
  • School Support
  • Financial Literacy
  • Post-Secondary School application and campus tours
  • Field trips and guest speakers
  • Volunteering and community involvement

Schedule:

Tuesdays: Education 4 pm to 7 pm
Homework help, Looking at post secondary school options and applications, funding options, volunteer hours.

Wednesdays: Goals 4 pm to 7 pm
Goal setting (what do you want your future to look like and what needs to be done to get you there?) One-on-one support.

Thursdays: Guest Speakers/Field Trips 4 pm to 7 pm
We will be inviting proessionals from the fields that interest you to come and speak about how started their career, as well as other professionals who specialize in finance (bank, OSAP, entrepreneurs).

Fridays: Employment 4 pm to 7 pm
Job searching/application, cover letters and resume preparation, intereview techniques, trainings, volunteer hours, dressing for success, etc.

Saturdays: Life Skills 10 am to 6 pm (bi-weekly)
Tips on how-to do laundry, cooking, budgeting, basic first aid, self-defence, coping with emotions, stress management, healthy relationships, sex ed, anger management, community resources, team work, self-esteem, conflict resolution, etc.
